Even though I have lived in Fresno, California my whole life, my family has not. Pop Laval, my great-great-grandfather on my Grandpa's side moved to Fresno from New York because of a job offer in the early 1900's. The job was to be a photographer for the Fresno Republican Newspaper. Ounce he had moved here, his mother and sisters came as well. My great-grandfather on my grandma's side moved from Alabama in the late 1920's. He came to work for what is today PG&E. On a more closely related note, my dad had many steps in moving to Fresno. First, he moved from Beirut, Lebanon to Tulare, California. Then he moved to Fresno to go to Fresno State. That is how my family came to Fresno.

Gregor the Overlander
Gregor the Overlander Suzanne Collins

Gregor and his 2-year old sister Boots discover a hole in their New York apartment laundry room that has them falling into The Underland, a world discovered hundreds of years ago by the Earl of Sandwich. In the Underland, their are very few trees, no modern technology, and of course, gigantic Cockroaches, Bats, Rats, and many more huge creatures. As Gregor soon finds out, the Rats are at war with the humans of the Underland, and they might be behind his dad's disappearance. Also to Gregor's surprise, everyone down there believes that he is apart of a mysterious prophecy, and tell him he must become someone who he is not. Read Gregor the Overlander to find out if Gregor survives the Underland.
In my opinion, Suzanne Collins does an amazing job of describing the setting. You can picture the Underland perfectly. It's like she is transporting you into the book, and you forget who you really are, because you are inside the book.
This song really captures the royal, secretive mood of the Underland.
